I am writing this because i have been acused of not doing anything to promote romanian culture. Therefor i have decided that here on out i shall translate emblematic romanian poetry that has not been yet translated in English, or that has been translated in a unflattering fashion.
Radu Gyr:
A Call to Battle
The pain of batles wich were lost
The pain of wounds deep in your core
Are nothig when compared to those
Of arms that fighthing will no more
As long as heart is strong and true
How relevant are broken bones?
When your flag rises in the blue
Would you then care of broken swords?
You’re not defeated when you bleed
And neither when you’re full of tears
The true defeat is only when
You choose to give up on your dreams.
This translation is more of an adaptation for the love of keeping a somewhat melodic feel and compromising as little as possible of the actual used words.
